Pawnbroker and gold buyer software with the counter maths built in
At a gold counter the tax question is decided by the price you pay. At or below metal value and the reverse charge is compulsory, the margin scheme is barred, and the invoice has to say so.
Exports to Xero and Sage.
The gold desk
Spot is held with a sixty second time to live, so the figure on the screen is the figure you are quoting rather than one from this morning. The per-carat calculator works the way the counter works, and melt or keep is a decision the record remembers.
The investment gold register is statutory: verified identity, six year retention, and notification to HMRC above five thousand pounds. Register failures cost roughly 17.5 per cent of transaction value, which is why it is a register rather than a note.
Cash, and when it becomes a registration
High Value Dealer registration is required before you accept ten thousand pounds or more in cash, and linked payments aggregate towards it. Milleso warns at nine thousand, because the duty is to register before you take the money rather than after.
A note on rates
No published price on this site is a metal rate. A rate printed in copy or artwork is wrong within a week and a dealer checks gram to price maths in his head. The system carries weights, finenesses and treatments; it does not put a number in front of you that has gone stale.
What this uses
The modules behind this page, and the plan that opens each. This table is generated from the rule the software enforces, so it cannot advertise something your plan will not open.

Questions
- When is the gold reverse charge compulsory?
- Where the price is at or below metal value, under Notice 701/21 section 11. The margin scheme is barred at the same moment for precious metals at metal value, investment gold and unmounted stones.
- Does it keep the investment gold register?
- Yes, with verified identity against the transaction and six year retention. HMRC notification is required above five thousand pounds.
- Is there a live gold price in the software?
- Inside the product, spot is held with a sixty second time to live at the gold desk. It is never published on this website, because a rate in marketing copy is out of date almost immediately.
Answers on this
- What is the best pawnbroker and gold-buying software for the UK in 2026?
Only UK-native systems (Clarity & Success, Nospos, Prism) handle the CCA pledge book; Bravo, PawnMaster, PawnMate and PPSS are US-only. Milleso does the gold desk.
- Free pawn shop and gold buying software: what 'free' actually gets you, and what it costs later
No free, maintained pawn system meets UK rules. What exists: free trials, a US product free if you take its card processing, dead open-source code and spreadsheets.
- Pawnbroker vs gold buyer vs 'cash for gold': what each is allowed to do, and who regulates it
A pawnbroker lends against your gold under the Consumer Credit Act and needs FCA authorisation. A gold buyer buys outright and answers to HMRC if cash hits £10,000.
- Do I charge VAT on scrap gold?
Sell scrap gold at metal value to a VAT-registered business and you do not charge VAT - the buyer accounts for it. The rule, the wording, the exceptions.
- Selling investment gold: when do I have to tell HMRC?
Within 28 days of your first exempt supply over £5,000, or £10,000 to one customer in 12 months. Plus the register, the ID rules and a 17.5% penalty.
- Can I use global accounting for a mixed scrap lot?
Partly. Global accounting is barred for precious metals and stones, so a mixed lot splits into two regimes at intake - and no item may have cost over £500.
